Uncle Dudley, by Nick Penn

Per the Comic Strip Project, Nick Penn (real name Nick Pouletsos) created Uncle Dudley, which ran from 1946-1948.  I presume the strip was renamed Bessie, which ran from 1948-1950.  Not much other info is available than that, save for an excerpt from Art Wood's "Great Cartoonists" pictured below.  Personally, I find his rendering of the female form quite beautiful.

Example of Uncle Dudley daily by Nick Penn, August 15, year unknown.  Bristol board size:  21" x 6".  Pen and ink.  Note the exquisite rendering of character Lana Jane.  This particular strip came directly from the Nick Penn Estate, and was found along with his military records.

Example of Uncle Dudley daily by Nick Penn, September 8, year unknown.  Bristol board size:  21" x 6".  Pen and ink.  More beautiful shots of Lana Jane.  Like the strip pictured earlier, this particular strip came directly from the Nick Penn Estate, and was found along with his military records.

Reverse of Uncle Dudley daily for September 8, year unknown.  Interesting rough concept sketches for the last panel of the finished art.

Example of Uncle Dudley daily by Nick Penn, September 11, 1947.  Copyright Chicago Times, Inc.  More art of Lana Jane.

Example of another daily by Nick Penn, date and year unknown.  Bristol board size:  22" x 7".  Pen and ink.  Like a couple of the strips pictured above, this particular strip came directly from the Nick Penn Estate, and was found along with his military records.  This may actually be a daily for the strip Bessie instead of Uncle Dudley, as the art is slightly different than the art for the previous Uncle Dudley strips.  However, I'm not sure, so if anyone knows please let me know!
